Geng Tanjulang

Geng Tanjulang (b. 1996) is a Chinese sculptor based in Hangzhou. Julang graduated with a BFA in Sculpture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing in 2020. He then completed an MFA in Sculpture at CAFA in 2024. Julang highlights his unique attitude towards life, using sculpture to capture the spirit of art as a conceptual form.

In his sculptures, Julang evokes the emotions and the spirit of postural shapes and forms, encouraging viewers to empathize with his work. His sculptures, inspired by the objects and beings in his periphery, come to life from the result of long hours in the studio to create meticulously realistic depictions. Like the conceptual artwork of Marcel Duchamp and installation work of Robert Morris, Julang evokes the fundamental ideas of synergising materialism with deeper emotional meanings.

Selected exhibitions include ‘When Attitude Becomes Form’ at Hong Art Museum (Suzhou, 2024), ‘UArt Source’ at UA Art Centre (Shanghai, 2024), ‘5th Huajiadi Biennale’ at Park Art Space (Beijing, 2024), ‘CAFA Research Graduation Exhibition’ at CAFA (Beijing, 2024), and the ‘CAFA Undergraduate Exhibition’ at CAFA (Beijing, 2020).
