Julia Runggaldier (b. 1993, Bressanone) is an Italian artist. She received a Diploma in Painting from the Cademia Art School in Ortisei, Italy in 2014. Her works are mirror images of the individual balancing the line between fantasy and reality; a self-reflection on what it means to exist in the world.
Influenced by psychology and the complex mentalities of life that exist in the world, Runggaldier reflects on traumas and dreams on the canvas. Striving to capture the language of the soul, the figures of her paintings are a self-analysis, revealing her innermost thoughts in these beings. Her intimate paintings invite the viewer to explore the self-discovery and self-worth that one may need.
Her works have been included in exhibitions including ‘THIS IS NOT A CURATED EXHIBITION III’ at Galleria Ramo (Como, 2022), ‘START 6’ at Gallery Prisma Upstairs (Ortisei, 2022), ‘Nackte Männer’ at Vijion Art Gallery (Ortisei, 2022), ‘The one wall gallery’ at Steffen Patrick (Paris, 2022) and ‘Birds of unfeigned gardens’ at Tubla da Nives (Selva di Val Gardena, 2018), as well as art fairs such as Volta Art Fair (Basel, 2022), Art Brussels (2022), Art International (Zurich, 2022), Discovery Art Fair (Frankfurt, 2022) and Positions Art Fair (Berlin, 2021).
She was awarded the D31 Art Prize for ‘Locked Down But Not Broken’ in the UK (2021) and a special mention at the Premio Nocivelli in Brescia (2022).
